Often Imitated, Never Duplicated

February 28th, 2010

Over the past several months we’ve received requests of just about every variety – and your feedback has been phenomenal. We love to write about our favorite places but it’s through your reports back to us that we’ve discovered this service’s true value. By writing in and telling us what you’re looking for you’ve allowed us to put our collective finger on the culinary pulse of New York City. Last week another very similar service to ours popped up. We believe – just like our parents taught us – that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. We want to thank you all for the great response to our service thus far and look forward to finding you the best restaurants, bars, and local haunts in the future. EE is fueled by the love of food, drink, and New York City and our tank has never been fuller!

Rudy! Rudy!

February 27th, 2010

Rudy.  One of my all-time favorite movies. It’s the little guy with the big dream. They say he’s too small, that he’ll never make the Notre Dame football team. (Spoiler Alert – although if you haven’t seen the movie by now you deserved to get spoiled) He makes the team! It’s a lesson to all the little guys out there – dream big and anything is possible. At this point you’re thinking, isn’t this a food blog? What is this person talking about? If I haven’t lost you yet, let’s get down to it. My preamble at the top of this post was inspired by a sandwich  - Rudy’s special to be exact – at The Original Sandwich Shoppe (TOSS)  - 58-A Greenwich Ave. The little sandwich shoppe that could. It’s not the prettiest place in the world but I think that’s the point. Too many times in New York the place that looks the best tastes the worst. Here, the look is far from the worst – cute, comfortable, inviting – and the sandwiches are definitely some of the best. They’re the culinary Rudy. The little shoppe that can more than hang with the big boys.

Thank You Mr. Palmer

In a world that’s becoming more and more cost conscious, New Yorkers are always on the lookout for a great deal. And why shouldn’t you be? You work hard for your money (so hard…) and you deserve to get what you pay for. We all want the best, but we want to find a place where the best doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Today, I’d like to thank a celebrity chef who gives us the opportunity to spend our money on something great, for the price of something good. Thank You Charlie Palmer. Thank you for your Grand Central Standout Metrazur – 404 Grand Central Terminal, East Balcony. For $25 you give us many different, all delicious, dishes to choose from. And Charlie, if you’re reading this, that’s one hell of a chopped salad!
